Guwahati, November 6: 2026
In a major financial boost to states ahead of the festive season, the Union Government has released ₹1,09,019 crore as tax devolution to state governments, with Assam receiving ₹3,552 crore as its share. The instalment, originally scheduled for November 10, was advanced and released on November 5 to help states meet their financial commitments and accelerate development activities.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the advance release is aimed at enabling state governments to increase capital expenditure and finance development and welfare-related programmes during the festive period.
Assam Receives ₹3,552 Crore
Assam has received ₹3,552 crore under the latest tax devolution instalment. The funds are expected to provide additional financial resources to the state government for meeting its expenditure requirements and supporting ongoing development initiatives.
The transfer comes at a time when state governments are preparing for increased expenditure during the festive season. The additional financial support is expected to provide greater flexibility in implementing infrastructure projects, public welfare programmes and other development-related activities. However, the allocation is part of the Centre’s regular tax devolution mechanism and is not a separate grant exclusively meant for Assam.
Centre Advances November Tax Transfer
The Union Government released the regular November instalment of tax devolution five days ahead of its scheduled date.
The Ministry of Finance stated that the advance release was made in view of the upcoming festive season and the need to enable states to accelerate capital spending.
The total amount of ₹1,09,019 crore has been distributed among all 28 states. Uttar Pradesh received the highest allocation of ₹19,208 crore, followed by Bihar with ₹10,845 crore and Madhya Pradesh with ₹8,010 crore.
West Bengal received ₹7,866 crore, while Maharashtra and Rajasthan were allocated ₹7,022 crore and ₹6,460 crore, respectively.
Among the other states, Odisha received ₹4,819 crore, Andhra Pradesh ₹4,597 crore, Karnataka ₹4,504 crore and Tamil Nadu ₹4,466 crore.
Financial Support for Development and Welfare
Tax devolution is an important mechanism through which the Union Government transfers a share of its tax revenue to state governments. These funds enable states to meet their expenditure requirements and undertake development projects according to their respective priorities.
The advance release is expected to provide states with greater financial flexibility during the festive season, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development, public services and welfare initiatives.
For Assam, the latest allocation of ₹3,552 crore is expected to strengthen the state’s available financial resources and support its ongoing development and welfare commitments.
The Ministry of Finance has reiterated that the advance transfer is intended to help states maintain the momentum of capital expenditure and facilitate timely implementation of development-related activities.
